Award-Winning Journalist James Shillinglaw Joins Travel Market Report

January 06, 2016

James Shillinglaw today joins Travel Market Report as a contributing editor with the title Editor-at-Large. Shillinglaw is regarded as the top editor covering the U.S. travel agency market today.

Under his leadership at Travel Agent Magazine from 1991 to 2003, the publication won numerous awards for excellence, including the prestigious Folio: award. Driven by an award-winning newsweekly format, insightful reporting and continuously breaking news ahead of the competition, the weekly trade magazine grew from 2,300 ad pages to over 5,500, rising from seventh to first place in the market. Under Shillinglaw, the group also launched special issues focused on “The Most Powerful Women in Travel” and “Travel’s Rising Stars.”

Until September, he served as founding editor-in-chief and editorial director for Travalliancemedia, where he launched the Travel Pulse online newsletter, as well as Agent@Home and Vacation Agent magazines. A two-time winner of ASTA’s Journalist of the Year award, he was nominated again in 2015.

Joining Travel Market Report, Shillinglaw will write two new features to launch in January: Super Agent and Person of the Week. He also will write a regular column. In addition, he will cover major industry news, events, and conferences, joining Travel Market Report‘s team of award-winning journalists led by editor Cheryl Rosen.

“We are thrilled to have James on our team,” said Anne Marie Moebes, co-publisher for Travel Market Report. “Travel Market Report has established itself as the voice of the travel professional, and James, without doubt, is the first and foremost the journalist who is most identified for his understanding and advocacy of the professional travel agent community.”

“Travel Market Report‘s excellence in journalism and focus on quality reporting edited for professional travel agents makes this is a great opportunity,” said Shillinglaw. “The retail travel agency community today is thriving, and I am looking forward to being a key player in Travel Market Report‘s future growth.”
