Consumer Publications Highlight Fall Foliage

With fall in full swing, the major consumer travel magazines are filled with the colors of fall foliage, with two major publications taking readers to Asheville, NC.

Travel + Leisure’s first time Photography Issue features a four-page travel diary, on the road from Nashville, TN, to Asheville. Along the way, we visit the Smoky Mountains, Chattanooga and its famous rustic luxury Blackberry Farm, Dollywood, and finally, arrive in Asheville.

Buenos Aires’ art culture and neighborhoods like Villa Crespo are the subject of a lush article that describes how this Argentinian city has become a contemporary art and tourism destination not unlike Brooklyn and Chelsea, in New York City. Art is also the subject of a three-page feature on Beijing, where Amy Fabris-Shi guides us through hip galleries and a one-day wander through the Old City.

T+L also qualifies the new Regent Seven Seas Explorer as a resounding success, in an article dedicated just to the new 750-passenger luxury cruise liner. In “On the Tiger Trail,” T+L updates readers on how two-thirds of the world’s tigers live in one or more of India’s 49 wildlife preserves, and how wildlife tourism is more organized and regulated for the sake of the tigers and travelers.

The magazine also features an eight-page Canada pictorial by a father and son photography team, spanning the nation from Clayoquot Wilderness Resort on Vancouver Island, to Fogo Island in the east. (TMR recently featured the 29-room Fogo Island Inn.)

Conde Nast Traveler took a much deeper dive into Asheville, defining it as the next hip vacation destination in the style of Portland, OR, or Austin, TX. From its fast-rising culinary stars, to micro-breweries, Asheville, including Pack Square and the River Arts District, has become “an essential Southern eating destination,” Conde Nast wrote.

In an issue whose centerpiece is the recently launched “Best in the World” travel listings, Conde Nast’s November issue also features eight beautiful pages on Botswana and a six-page look into Naples, Italy.

Afar’s /December “Vanguard Issue” predicts the “Next Dream Destinations,” for readers, including Tasmania and Iran. Tha magazine finishes off with 10 photo-filled pages, with editorial, guiding wine lovers through Europe’s Alpine region, where the borders of France, Switzerland and Italy meet.
