MSC This Week Becomes First Cruise Line in Cuba
MSC Cruises will officially be the first major cruise line sailing out of Cuba when it start operations in the island nation this week.
As the United States and Cuba continue to work toward normalizing relations, MSC for now is only offering bookings to European and Canadian travelers—but already bookings for Cuba are “above our estimations,” CEO Gianni Onorato told Reuters.
Fathom, Carnival’s social-impact cruise brand, was approved for Cuban travel in July, but it has not yet begun sailing.
MSC is planning to sail the MSC Opera, which will arrive in Havana this week, and the MSC Armonia, which will sail starting November 2016, out of Cuba. Onorato said the demand for MSC Cuba cruises has been great enough to earmark a section of the Havana airport specifically for MSC guests.
