New England The Focus Of New PBS Travel Series
Yankee magazine and Boston’s PBS station WGBH have teamed up to produce Weekends With Yankee. The new travel and lifestyle series is named for the 80-year-old magazine, and set to highlight the city and country sights of New England.
Filming begins this month on 13 weekly half-hour episodes that will premiere nationally on public television stations in April 2017.
Emmy Award-winning TV travel explorer and author Richard Wiese will host the series, which promises to “tap into Yankee's insider secrets and behind-the-scenes access to the unique attractions that define the region, and the hidden New England that only locals know.” Wiese will be joined by Yankee's senior food editor, Amy Traverso, “who will share the recipes, local flavors and sense of community that make up the fabric of the region's food and dining scene,” the companies said in a press release.
Weekends With Yankee is currently filming in all six New England states and is being produced by WGBH Boston's Studio Six.
