Princess Cruises Cancels New Sun Princess Inaugural Voyage Days Before Departure
by Dori Saltzman /Less than a month after Princess Cruises canceled Sun Princess’ Feb. 8 inaugural voyage, the line is canceling its “new” inaugural, which was scheduled to depart Feb. 18. Affected passengers received an email on Feb. 13.
According to the email, Princess is still taking delivery of Sun Princess on Feb. 14, but “the ship must remain alongside in the shipyard to allow for additional technical work to be completed…”
Guests booked on the canceled sailing will receive a full refund of the cruise fare along with any additional onboard services that were pre-purchased, as well as a 50% future cruise credit (FCC) that can be used on any future Princess voyage booked by Nov. 30, 2024 for a cruise that concludes sailing by Dec. 31, 2025.
Additionally, guests who have not started their travel yet will receive up to $200 per person to cover change fees related to air travel plans. Guests who are already en route to Rome or already in Rome will be reimbursed for the entire cost of their roundtrip airfare.
Princess is also protecting travel advisors’ commissions.
Oceania Cruises also recently announced the launch of its next new ship, Allura, will be delayed and canceled the vessel’s first six voyages.
TMR toured Sun Princess in the Fincantieri shipyard back in December. At the time, the ship seemed on track to meet its scheduled delivery. Neither Princess nor Fincantieri has given a reason for the delay.
