Viking Cruises this week officially welcomed its newest ocean cruise ship, Viking Saturn, to its fleet during a ceremony in New York.
The 930-guest ship was named by its godmother, Ann Ziff, who is the chairman of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. The ship will now kick off its inaugural season, with two new Viking voyages: Iconic Iceland, Greenland & Canada, between New York and Reykjavik, and Iceland & Norway’s Arctic Explorer, between Reykjavik and Bergen.
“It is an honor to be godmother of the new Viking Saturn and celebrate this momentous occasion in New York,” said Ziff. “Viking and the Metropolitan Opera share a common goal in creating enriching experiences throughout the world and there is no doubt the Viking Saturn will do just that for her guests.”
Viking has a shared history with the Metropolitan Opera—guests on its ocean ships have access to the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD Series among other cultural programming onboard.
Viking Saturn is the company’s ninth ocean ship. It features 465 staterooms, all with verandahs, along with al fresco dining options including Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant, The Chef’s Table, The Kitchen Table, and more. It also features a sports deck on deck 9, a main pool and separate infinity pool, Viking’s Aquavit Terrace, and more.
