Construction Begins on Royal Caribbean’s Second Icon-Class Ship
by Dori Saltzman /With the debut of Icon of the Seas – Royal Caribbean’s first new ship in an all-new class in 10 years – about 11 months away, construction is already underway on the second ship in the series.
Construction officially began this week with the first cut of steel at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The second, as-yet-unnamed ship, will set sail in 2025.
The Icon Class of ship will feature eight neighborhoods, including one entire neighborhood dedicated solely to families with kids 6 and younger. It will also have the largest waterpark at sea, 14 new cabin categories, the line’s first-ever swim up bar, and the AquaDome, a day-to-night space enclosed within a glimmering dome that offers tranquil relaxation by day and exciting AquaTheater at night.
Royal Caribbean broke all one-day sales records on the day Icon of the Seas was opened for bookings to the general public.
