Air Canada Expands Summer 2023 Schedule

Air Canada on Thursday unveiled its 2023 summer schedule, one that features more European service and the resumption of some key Asia service for the carrier.

Air Canada, just like United Airlines did on Wednesday, said that its international expansion comes because of increased demand for international travel coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic. That is despite what some believe to be a softening global economic environment and continued increases in travel prices.

Starting in May 2023, Air Canada will add the following routes to its service network:

  • Toronto to Brussels, which will start June 1, and will fly five times a week year-round.
  • Montreal to Toulouse, France, which will start on June 1, five times a week, and will operate year-round.
  • Montreal to Copenhagen, which will start June 1, flying five times a week, only in the summer.
  • Toronto to Tokyo Haneda, which will start May 1 and operate daily year-round.
  • Vancouver to Osaka, which will start on Jun2 2 and operate four times a week, only in the summer.

At the same time, Air Canada is boosting service to some key European markets, again to meet that expected, increased travel demand among Canadians. That includes Toronto to London Heathrow going from three to four times daily,  Toronto to Barcelona increasing from five times weekly to daily, and Montreal to Frankfurt going from twice daily to 19 times per week (in partnership with Lufthansa).

Outside of Europe, Air Canada is also boosting service from Toronto to Dubai from three-times weekly to daily, from Montreal to Tel Aviv from three to four times weekly, from Vancouver to Hong Kong from three times weekly to daily, and from Montreal to Tokyo Narita from twice weekly to daily.

"We continue to pursue our disciplined approach of expanding our global network in response to anticipated demand. We are especially pleased to be adding three new strategic routes to Europe, resuming important services to Japan, and increasing frequencies to key international destinations for summer 2023," said Mark Galardo, Senior Vice President Network Planning and Revenue Management at Air Canada.
