Skyscanner Reveals Canadian Travel Outlook for 2024

Skyscanner Reveals Canadian Travel Outlook for 2024

x

Last week, Skyscanner released its latest Horizons report for Canada.

The latest data points to shifts in Canadian traveler preferences for summer 2024, such as booking further out, shorter stay lengths, and growing interest in South America and North Asia.

Skyscanner’s Horizons report provides insight into booking windows, destination choices, and travel trends. The information is gathered via the company’s proprietary Travel Insight Data, which compares traveler behavior and search trends year-over-year. The latest report covers June to August, 2024, using data collected in January 2024.

Skyscanner’s research found that Canadians across the board are booking further ahead. The longest booking window, 90+ days, is now a third of demand—a sign that travel confidence has improved. Stay lengths, however, are down. Across all regions, average trip lengths at the most popular destinations were either flat or slightly decreased compared to last year.

Another key takeaway from the report is Canadian travelers’ growing interest in South America and North Asia, with San Carlos de Bariloche and Ushuaia in Argentina, and Tokyo, Japan being among the top searched-for destinations.

Other global destinations popular with Canadians include Madrid, Spain; Orlando, Florida; Medellin, Colombia; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Porto Seguro, Brazil; Santiago, Chile; and Tunis, Tunisia.

According to a release, Skyscanner saw “record travel demand” for early 2024.

“Across Skyscanner’s platforms we have seen incredible demand at the start of the year,” said Zeynep Mutlu Bigali, Head of Destination Partnerships. “We expect this to continue as we head into the summer.”

Skyscanner is a search aggregator and travel agency used by over 100 million people per month, across 53 countries and 33 languages. The Edinburgh-based company was founded in 2003.
