Report: Canada Jetlines’ Days Are Numbered
by Daniel McCarthy /The end of Canada Jetlines may very well be in sight.
According to airline news publication Gate Checked, Canada Jetlines management sent a memo out to crew members on Wednesday, telling them that it will be making an official announcement on shutting down soon. No timeline as to exactly when operations would cease was given.
Should the report prove accurate, it spells the end of a very short-lived era for the airline, which marketed itself as an all-Canadian, all-leisure airline when it launched in 2022, offering “value vacation choices and convenient travel” to flyers.
While it had some delays during its launch, Canada Jetlines moved quickly once it started operations. It signed an agreement with Sabre, an important step to connect with the trade, and then scored FAA approval to operate to and from the U.S., along with other destinations in the Caribbean, including Cuba. Its ultimate goal was to fly 15 total aircraft by 2025.
However, serious trouble was apparent this week when its interim CEO Brigitte Goersch resigned, along with several other executives, and the airline fully admitted that it would need to raise additional capital to continue to operate. While it confirmed that its board of directors and management were focused on doing just that, the report seems to mark the end of any ambitions to continue to operate.
