American Airlines Begins Fleetwide Rollout of Free High-Speed Wi-Fi

American Airlines is now offering free Wi-Fi to most of its passengers—and will soon offer it to all of them.

After announcing the move late in 2025, American confirmed on Monday that it has started rolling out free high-speed Wi-Fi across its narrow-body and dual-class regional fleets. The plan is for American to add free Wi-Fi to all those jets and then, by early spring, to roll it out to its entire fleet, including its 787-9, 787-8, and other wide-body aircraft.

Similar to other carriers, American is offering Wi-Fi through a partnership with AT&T.

To log in for free, the airline requires all passengers to provide a loyalty plan number. To get online, passengers will use their AAdvantage number and password (those who are not yet members can join for free before, during, or even after their flight to ensure future access).

With the move, American finally joins its competitors, including Delta, which began offering free Wi-Fi in 2023, and United, which did the same in 2025.

The addition comes as American marks its centennial anniversary. The airline traces its roots back to 1926, when a Robertson Aircraft Corporation DH-4 took off from Chicago bound for St. Louis with mail in tow. To mark the occasion, the airline is adding special centennial livery to one of its Boeing 737s later this month, rolling out a centennial logo on select branding, and launching various commemorative promotions.
