Your open-mindedness has taken you into the heart of what Explora Journeys offers, like generous third- and fourth-guest supplement fares, a dedicated programme for children and teenagers, and a reimagined approach to curated entertainment and enrichment at sea with unexpected – and, often, subtle – presentation of numerous experiences and interactions with enormously talented resident and guest artists, experts and Luminaries. And Destination Experiences that offer a myriad of different ways for travellers to explore the world – individually or together with their family or friend group.
We, too, have embraced open-mindedness, first by listening to travel advisors and discerning travellers to create a new approach to luxury ocean travel, and, as we build the ships that will follow the recently launched EXPLORA I, to modify our plans as we learn new things about the innovations and efficiencies that can help us lessen our impact on the oceans and the destinations we visit.
One example of this came after we committed to ships five and six being hydrogen-powered, featuring a new generation of liquefied natural gas, or “LNG” engines, that will tackle the issue of methane gas leaks into the atmosphere. We also affirmed our commitment to equipping these two ships with industry-first, environmental technologies that enable them to use this promising low-carbon fuel, which will produce emission-free power for the hotel operation, and allow vessels to run on zero emissions in port, with the engines turned off.
But we realised that the time to act is sooner, not later, so based on designs for ships five and six, now, ships three and four are going to be lengthened by 19 metres beyond their original design, in order to also be able to run on “LNG” and hydrogen power.
This extension would also have allowed for the addition of 44 more suites in that space but we are not, we are only adding seven: a second owner’s residence and six more Penthouses.
This is, in effect, a doubly powerful impact of being open-minded. Not only have we revisited our plans for two ships, we also have taken what guests have told us, deeply to heart – particularly when they have said they want more space.
