Construction of Disney’s Next New Cruise Ship Is “Officially” Underway
by Dori Saltzman /Disney Cruise Line reached a significant milestone in the construction of its next new ship, the Disney Treasure, with a keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
As part of the ceremony, which follows maritime tradition and is said to bring good fortune, Philip Gennotte, portfolio project management executive for Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, placed a newly minted coin under the keel of the ship. The laying of the keel is considered the official start of construction in shipbuilding.
Disney Treasure is scheduled for delivery in 2024. It will be the second of three new Wish-class ships planned through 2025. Like the first in the series, Disney Wish, it will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and feature 1,254 staterooms.
