Disney Cruise Line Acquires New Ship, Set to Enter Service in 2025

Disney Cruise Line on Wednesday announced another addition to its rapidly growing fleet, adding a former Genting Dream Cruises ship that is now set to undergo a refurbishment ahead of its debut.

The ship was formerly known as Global Dream, and had been slated to enter the Genting Dream Cruises fleet prior to the MV Werften bankruptcy in 2022. Disney will now work to rename and reimagine the ship and bring it into its fleet in 2025.

While Disney hasn’t unveiled a ton about its plans, the new ship is expected to be based outside of the U.S. and to feature “innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining, and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart,” it said in a message to its travel partners this week.

Disney is planning to match its exterior to the other ships in its fleet, including adorning it with the iconic Mickey Mouse color scheme. The ship, at 208,000 gross tons, will have a capacity of 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members.

Disney is coming off of the debut of Disney Wish last summer, the first of three Triton-class ships that Disney has planned through 2025. Wish was the first new Disney Cruise Line ship in a decade but, including Wish and the new Dream Cruises ship, the line will now see four new ships added in four years, the fastest expansion in the cruise line’s history.
