Rocky Mountaineer will not return to operations this year as the Canadian rail operator announced on Wednesday that it would be cancelling its operations through the end of its 2020 season (Oct. 11).

“Given the continuing government travel and health restrictions, we have no choice but to postpone or rail tours until the scheduled start of our 2021 season,” Steve Sammut, president and CEO of Rocky Mountaineer, said in a statement.

Rocky Mountaineer is giving all guests on suspended departures a 110% FTC for all monies paid, which can be used through the end of the 20222 season.

The operator is also holding all 2021 and 2022 rail prices at the 2020 levels and it is guaranteeing the same price for all guests who book a similar package within 14 days on either side of the original departure date anniversary.

“In the coming months, we will work our guests and travel partners to rebook their travels from this year, and then shift our focus to our 2021 season. When we do operate our trains, the health and safety of our guests and team members will be at the forefront, while still continuing to provide the superb service for which we are known,” Sammut added.

Rocky Mountaineer has already made a number of changes that it hopes will help restore consumer confidence and help its crew members and its guests stay safe when it does return to operations. Those changes include a pre-travel health screening of guests, social distancing onboard, enhanced sanitization of all rail cars, and more.
