Starwood Set to Open 22 New Element Hotels

by James Shillinglaw  April 29, 2016

Starwood Hotels & Resorts may be waiting for its deal to be acquired by Marriott to be finalized, but it isn’t standing still on expanding its hotel footprint.

Starwood’s Element brand, its sustainable extended-stay unit, said it is opening 22 new properties in North America in the next two years, including its first hotels in Philadelphia, Charleston, and Nashville. That will put Element on track to more than double its North America footprint over the next three years.

Over the past 12 months, Element has opened new hotels in Boston, Miami, Fargo, Bozeman, Basalt, and Vancouver. It also will enter a number of new markets by the end of 2018, including Chandler, AZ; San Antonio, TX; Moline, IL; Syracuse, NY; Bentonville, AK; and Huntsville, AL. The brand also will triple its portfolio in Texas from two hotels to eight by the end of 2018.

Across North America, Starwood will open Aloft and Element hotel projects in Syracuse, NY (Aloft 2016, Element 2018); Austin (2017); Dallas (2017); Redmond, WA (2017); and Charleston, SC (2018).

New Element hotels slated to open by the end of 2018 include: Element Calgary Airport in Alberta, Canada (September 2016); Element Chandler Fashion Center in Chandler, AZ (January 2017); Element Dallas Love Field in Dallas (February 2017); Element Huntsville in Huntsville, AL (March 2017); Element Moline in Moline, IL (April 2017); Element Redmond in Redmond, WA (May 2017); Element Austin Downtown in Austin (August 2017); Element Palmdale in Palmdale, CA (October 2017); Element Fort Lauderdale Downtown in Fort Lauderdale, FL (December 2017); Element Philadelphia in Philadelphia (January 2018), the first-ever W and Element dual-branded hotel development; Element Nashville West End in Nashville, TN (January 2018); Element San Antonio Airport in San Antonio, TX (March 2018); Element Katy in Katy, TX (March 2018); Element Syracuse Inner Harbor in Syracuse, NY (April 2018); Element Charleston Historic Downtown in Charleston, SC (May 2018); Element Dallas East in Dallas (July 2018); and Element Spring Valley in Spring Valley, NY (September 2018).
