Air Serbia Flights Re-establish Connection between Serbia & Canada After 34 Years

Air Serbia Flights Re-establish Connection between Serbia & Canada After 34 Years

Belgrade sign for Air Serbia’s inaugural flight to Toronto.

Air Serbia has launched direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto, re-establishing an air connection between Serbia and Canada after 34 years.

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric told Kosovo Online at Belgrade Airport that the new route connects Serbia with one of the world’s largest economies.

“We are opening the doors of the world for Serbia, and I am very happy and proud that our national airline is restoring flights to Toronto after 34 years. In doing so, we are connecting Serbia not only with one of the largest economies on the planet, but also connecting two important branches of our people,” Djuric said.

“Let us not forget that hundreds of thousands of Serbs or people from this region live in Canada, and they will now be closer to their homeland. Today, I am also one of the first passengers on this newly launched route,” Djuric said.

Airline and airport officials welcome the return of service between Belgrade and Toronto.

Speaking about his visit to Canada, Djuric noted that it was the first official visit by a Serbian foreign minister to Canada in more than a decade and that it marked the opening of a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

“I am going in good faith, with the desire to refresh the image of Serbia, our aspirations, our values, and what we have achieved over the previous two decades as a country that has tripled the value and size of its economy, a country central to the stability of Southeast Europe, and a country whose people genuinely want better relations with one of the world’s most significant economies.”

During his visit, Djuric will meet with Canada’s foreign minister, The Honourable Anita Anand, the speaker of the Canadian parliament and representatives of the business community.

Canadian Ambassador to Serbia Michelle Cameron told Kosovo Online that it was an important day for relations between the two countries.

“We are marking 85 years of diplomatic relations — a strong foundation built on mutual respect, cooperation, and increasingly shared engagement. The introduction of this direct flight between Belgrade and Toronto represents a concrete step toward the future in our relations. Direct connectivity is essential,” she said.

Flights between Belgrade and Toronto will operate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The seasonal service to Toronto marks the carrier’s third North American destination after New York and Chicago.
