With River Demand High, Avalon Spotlights Last-Minute & Early-Booking Options

Fresh off a record-setting sales year and amidst continued strong demand for European river cruising, Avalon Waterways wants to help advisors capture both last-minute summer travellers and early planners by spotlighting the cruises to book now for 2026 and the itineraries trending for 2027.

For advisors working with clients eager to sail Europe this summer, Avalon still has limited availability on several itineraries across the Rhine, Danube and Rhône Rivers – offering immersive experiences in some of the continent’s most iconic destinations.

“River cruising demand remains incredibly strong, and advisors are seeing bookings come from two directions at once – travellers ready to sail this summer and others planning well ahead for next year,” said Avalon president Pam Hoffee. “Our goal is to make sure advisors have great options for both.”

With many travellers shifting to off-peak travel to avoid overcrowding, Avalon says that summer remains one of the most vibrant times to experience Europe’s rivers – and perhaps a little less crowded than in the past due to the booking shift.

“Summer is when Europe’s rivers feel especially alive,” added Hoffee. “You see it in the landscapes, the markets, the cafés and the energy in each destination.”

Last-Minute 2026 Summer Cruises to Book Now

Advisors seeking space for clients hoping to travel this summer can still secure cabins on several of Avalon’s most sought-after itineraries, including:

Reflections on the Rhine. A classic journey from Amsterdam to Basel featuring storybook villages, vineyard-clad hillsides and castles perched high above the river.

Illuminations on the Danube. A captivating cruise through Central Europe connecting iconic capitals like Budapest and Vienna with charming riverside towns rich in history.

Burgundy & Provence. A flavourful journey through southern France along the Rhône and Saône rivers, where culinary traditions, vineyards and Roman history converge.

Active & Discovery on the Rhône. Avalon’s passion-based cruise offering guests a robust choice of active adventures, cultural discoveries and classic sightseeing experiences throughout the south of France.

The Most Popular Cruises Trending for 2027

Avalon reports strong early demand for several top-selling 2027 cruises, making early booking essential for those seeking specific departure dates and/or staterooms. The cruise line’s most popular 2027 itineraries include:

All Christmas Market cruises. Europe’s rivers transform into festive storybooks as historic towns glow with holiday lights, wooden market stalls, seasonal treats and centuries-old Christmas traditions.

Vida Portugal: Vineyards & Villages Along the Douro. A golden journey through Portugal’s breathtaking Douro Valley, where terraced vineyards, hilltop villages and world-renowned wines define the landscape.

Paris to Normandy. From the romance of Paris to the poignant shores of Normandy, this story-rich sailing traces art, history and heritage along the scenic Seine.

Active & Discovery on the Rhine. (99% booked for 2026). An immersive Rhine experience offering everything from biking and hiking to castle visits and cultural discoveries along a legendary river.

Balkan Discovery. A captivating journey along the lower Danube through Eastern Europe’s most intriguing capitals, ancient fortresses and lesser-explored cultural crossroads.

Highlights of Holland & Belgium. A charming cruise through the canals and countryside of the Low Countries, where windmills, flower-filled landscapes and medieval towns set the scene.

Avalon Waterways president Pam Hoffee.

“These itineraries continue to resonate because they combine iconic destinations with Avalon’s award-winning Suite Ships, immersive excursions and the freedom for guests to explore their passions along the way,” added Hoffee.

“European river cruising demand shows no signs of slowing,” she concluded. “The key for advisors is securing the right sailing while space is still available.”
