Alberta Is Open for Business

by Robin Amster  July 05, 2013

Following recent flooding in Alberta, tourism officials have reported that most of the province’s destinations and attractions are open for business.

The province’s two major airports—Calgary International and Edmonton International—are operating normally, and the Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and Banff re-opened on June 26.

Banff National Park escaped the worst of the flooding, and officials there said the park was open, with most major attractions operating normally. The park’s highways were clear for travel and the shuttle between Calgary International and Banff was in service.

Most of the flood damage—estimated at $3 billion to $5 billion—occurred in downtown Calgary.

Information source
Travel Alberta launched a dedicated website, AlbertaTravelUpdate.com, to provide travel agents, tour operators and clients with the latest information on tourism-related flood recovery updates.

“We want to create the best vacation experience possible for travelers to ensure our travel partners have the information they need to help those planning vacations to Alberta—Alberta is open for business,” said Bruce Okabe, CEO of Travel Alberta.

New offerings
Tour operators have recently expanded both the number of tours and the types of programs they offer to Alberta.

Known for its stunning natural beauty and outdoor activities, the destination is now adding in tours based on history, culture and train travel. Many programs tie into current trends for multigenerational and experiential travel.
