Universal Kids Resort, the first children’s theme park and resort from Universal Destinations & Experiences, officially opened its doors to guests on July 1, 2026.
Located in Frisco, Texas — just 30 miles north of Dallas — Universal Kids Resort is a unique offering within the U.S. theme park landscape, combining franchise-themed attractions with a focus on creating a family-friendly environment. Unlike the other theme parks, this one is just for the kids, with the hotel and attractions having been designed for families with children ages 3 to 8 years old.
The park features seven lands, each one themed to a popular children’s franchise, like Shrek, Trolls, and Minions. The rides are all kid-friendly too, with more emphais on gentle themed rides than thrilling ones — although there is a steel rollarcoaster themed to the children’s animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Universal Kids Resort is on a smaller scale than its other parks, with the hotel located right at the park gates. The 300-room property offers a mix of rooms and suites, with standard, deluxe, and signature rooms that sleep up to five guests, and suites that sleep up to six. The rooms are colorfully decorated and include bunk beds for the kids. Within the hotel, guests have access to an arcade, pool, and restaurant.

“Every aspect of this park was designed with kids in mind, and it’s amazing to see the smiles on their faces as they enjoy all that Universal Kids Resort has to offer,” said Page Thompson, president, new ventures, Universal Destinations & Experiences.
The seven lands featured in Universal Kids Resort include: DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp; Jurassic World Adventure Camp; Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom; Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club; DreamWorks’ TrollsFest; DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar; and the Isle of Curiosity featuring DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse.
Each land includes themed attractions and restaurants, and the menus have been carefully created to please both children and their parents. Guests can enjoy Minion-themed popcorn, Jurassic World-inspired dino chicken nuggets, and classic pizza varieties at Trolls Eatz Pizzas.
Tickets, hotel packages, and upgrades are available to book now.
Travelers look for an enhanced trip experience can opt in for additional paid opportunities, such as the Troll-ify Me! Experience — a makeover allowing kids to cosplay as their favorite Trolls — and the Private VIP Experience, which is a four-hour guided walking tour can accommodate groups of six, and includes priority access and seating at attractions and entertainment offerings. There are various options to customize group experiences at the park, including a birthday party option.
“Universal Kids Resort offers a completely unique experience to what we have at our other destinations – introducing a younger generation to Universal fun crafted just for them,” said Molly Murphy, president, Universal Creative. “We set out to develop a park that invites kids to splash, play, dance and laugh with some of their favorite characters. We’re excited for kids to create lasting memories here with their families as they embark on the ultimate playdate.”
