New Opening: 1 Hotel Austin

1 Hotels just debuted in Texas with the opening of 1 Hotel Austin, located within the state’s tallest tower. 

The 74-story Waterline skyscraper is a mixed-use development and is now home to the 252-room hotel, including 60 suites, which draw upon the brand’s nature-rich ethos. 

“1 Hotels’ DNA is about celebrating nature and healthy and sustainable living,” Barry Sternlicht, founder of 1 Hotels and chairman of Starwood Hotels. “This location is perfect for us – set in the heart of the city, alongside Waller Creek, overlooking the Waterloo Greenway, and steps from the trail around Lady Bird Lake. The connection between nature and urban life is our perfect site.”   

Inspired by the natural surroundings, 1 Hotel Austin makes use of natural materials throughout, such as locally quarried limestone, oak, and reclaimed wood salvaged from historic American structures. The lobby has a residential feel with floor-to-ceiling windows, as do the guest rooms – with views of either Lady Bird Lake, Waller Creek, or the downtown skyline. 

The hotel is home to three restaurants: Alteño, a Mexican restaurant with Michelin-starred Chef Johnny Curiel at the helm; Neighbors Café and Wine Bar at the street level; and watr, serving Japanese cuisine on the rooftop. 

The property boasts a dedicated floor for the Bamford Wellness Spa, which offers six private treatment rooms, a dedicated couples suite with a steam shower, locker rooms, and relaxation areas. 

In the past year, 1 Hotels has also opened 1 Hotel Tokyo and launched a one-of-a-kind, mission-driven loyalty program.
