The Eiffel Tower, Paris’ most iconic landmark, remains closed to visitors as workers strike over what they consider to be mismanagement. The strike first began on Monday and, according to the Tower’s website, may very well remain closed through Feb. 22.

“Due to a strike action of a part of the Eiffel Tower personnel, the Eiffel Tower is currently closed… Due to a renewable strike notice, the opening of the Eiffel Tower could be disrupted on February 22,” a notice on the website says.

According to Le Monde, as cited by USA Today, union workers are upset with SETE, which operates the Eiffel Tower and is owned by the City of Paris. They contend that, in light of the upcoming Summer Olympics, SETE has “overestimated the amount of future visitors and underestimated maintenance costs.”
