Over 30% of international trips to the Asia-Pacific now span multiple destinations, according to new data from Trip.com.
Multi-destination bookings are growing at more than twice the pace of single-destination travel, reflecting stronger demand for flexibility and deeper exploration.
The data shows a continued shift towards more complex, itinerary-led travel to markets including Japan, South Korea, parts of Southeast Asia and Mainland China. Travellers are looking for more authentic experiences and value, as well as maximizing time spent in destination when it comes to long-haul markets.
Demand for multi-destination travel is rising steadily across Southeast Asia, with strong growth across the key markets of Thailand: 52%, Malaysia: 40%, and Singapore: 17%, according to the Trip.com data.
Travellers are structuring their trips to maximize both time and value, with popular combinations that include Tokyo – Osaka – Kyoto (Japan), Seoul – Busan (South Korea) and Bangkok – Phuket (Thailand).
It’s not just inbound multi-destination travel that’s rising, strong cross-border and domestic travel is also growing. In other parts of Asia such as Hong Kong SAR, multi-destination travel also grew by over 50% year-on-year while in mainland China, over 40% of outbound trips span multiple destinations and are continuing to grow. Top outbound destinations across Southeast Asian markets include Japan (Tokyo, Osaka), South Korea (Seoul), China (Shanghai, Beijing), Thailand (Bangkok), Indonesia (Bali).
