Club Med Cancun is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and to mark the milestone the all-inclusive pioneer welcomed a group of travel advisors, media representatives (including Travel Market Report Canada) and VIP guests to commemorate the milestone.
Opened in 1976, Club Med Cancun was one of the first resorts to establish a presence in a destination that has since become one of the most popular among Canadian travellers.
Fifty years after opening, the resort has undergone a refresh, including the addition of a new beachfront area featuring a swimming pool, bar and lounge, and a building with ocean-view accommodations.

The festivities kicked off Tuesday (Oct. 20) with the arrival of guests, including 20 travel advisors from Quebec, 20 from Ontario, along with a handful of Canadian media representatives and public figures.
The first day wrapped up with a welcome cocktail reception at the brand-new Las Velas outdoor lounge area, followed by a themed evening celebrating the famous “45,” which has become a symbol of the Club Med spirit over the years.
For the occasion, all guests received a T-shirt featuring the iconic number, which they were encouraged to wear that evening. Each night has its own theme, with a boho-chic atmosphere planned for Wednesday and Club Med’s traditional White Night on Thursday.
Wednesday (Oct. 21) is dedicated to exploring the resort. Guests will attend a Club Med presentation, followed by an in-depth guided tour highlighting the property’s evolution since its opening.
The afternoon will feature a range of activities reflecting the Club Med experience, including mixology workshops, yoga, pickleball, archery, and Club Med signature circus activities.
The highlight of the celebrations will take place Wednesday evening, with a 50th-anniversary dinner at Taco Arte restaurant, showcasing the flavours and rich cultural heritage of Mexico.
The festivities will continue Thursday with a guacamole-making workshop, a farewell cocktail reception and Club Med’s traditional White Night.

Beyond the anniversary celebrations, the trip will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of Club Med.
Founded in 1950 by Gérard Blitz, the French brand has gradually transformed its offering over the decades. Today, Club Med operates more than 60 resorts worldwide and continues to expand, including in Canada, where the brand will have two properties by 2028: Club Med Québec Charlevoix and the upcoming Club Med Tremblant.
Over the next few days, Travel Market Report Canada will be on-site to discover this iconic resort, meet with Club Med representatives and learn more about the brand’s evolution, priorities and vision for the all-inclusive experience.
Stay tuned for more on-location coverage!
