TMR Canada in PUJ: Discovering the New ZEL Hotel Designed by Meliá and Rafael Nadal

Entrée du ZEL Punta Cana

TMR Canada team recently had the opportunity to discover the ZEL Punta Cana, the first ZEL brand hotel in the Caribbean. Launched by Meliá Hotels International in collaboration with global sports icon Rafael Nadal, ZEL promises “a fresh vision of hospitality.”

The brand, already established in Europe, chose Punta Cana for its first Caribbean location, with the clear ambition of blending the Mediterranean lifestyle with the natural energy of the tropics.

“The opening of ZEL Punta Cana marks a significant milestone for the ZEL brand as we bring our Mediterranean lifestyle to the Caribbean,” said Gabriel Escarrer, President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International. “This celebration reflects our commitment to creating unforgettable experiences, blending warm hospitality, vibrant energy, and the beauty of two iconic cultures. Meliá Hotels International and Rafael Nadal are delighted to welcome guests from around the world to discover the unique charm of ZEL Punta Cana.”

The values behind the vision

The hotel brand shares values that combine the European lifestyle with Caribbean conviviality. “Our core values rest on three pillars: the design of each space, gastronomy that reflects Spanish tradition, and well-being, which we call med -being , an approach inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle,” explained the hotel’s general manager, Miguel Diaz.

When sport shapes the art of living

Closely linked to the world of Rafael Nadal’s academy, ZEL’s philosophy draws inspiration from his approach to sport, where movement, discipline, and balance are integral to both travel and everyday life. This is a natural nod to Rafael Nadal’s involvement in the project. Here, movement is encouraged as a lifestyle, accessible and adaptable to all types of travellers.

The Rafael Nadal Academy is located opposite the ZEL boutique hotel.

An exclusive agenda

The meticulously planned schedule of this three-day press trip allowed for a complete immersion in the world of the boutique hotel. The program included a detailed tour of the site to understand its vision and design choices, as well as a series of activities inspired by the European lifestyle. These experiences emphasized movement, balance, and conviviality. This portrait perfectly illustrates ZEL’s commitment to seamlessly integrating sport and well-being into the travel experience.

A new take on Punta Cana

This immersive experience offered a fresh perspective on Punta Cana, a resort destination well-known to Canadian travellers. With ZEL, the offering is enhanced by its lifestyle concept. Without seeking to reinvent the destination, the boutique hotel offers a contemporary alternative, in line with the evolving expectations of travellers.
