Stateroom door decorations are common on many mainstream cruise lines but are especially popular on Disney Cruise Line ships where some cruisers even go so far as to offer bags with gifts to anyone who passes by. But some decorations go too far – literally – extending beyond the door itself to corridor walls.
In response, Disney updated its door decoration guidelines to specify that decorations “should only be placed on doors and are not permitted on corridor walls or ceilings.”
Magnetic signs and photos are still permitted, but only on the actual stateroom door. Restrictions on decorations using tape or other adhesive materials are still prohibited. Decorations featuring sound or video are also not allowed.
In May, Royal Caribbean sent cruisers on a Symphony of the Seas sailing a reminder of its door decoration policy, which prohibits the use of lithium-powered lights or any decorations that touch the door frame. Decorations also must not cover the peep hole or pose a fire hazard.
