New York’s Best New Hotels Of 2017

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

Looking for a room with a view? Your clients will certainly have their pick in New York City, where the hotel market shows no signs of slowing down as 113,000 rooms will grow by 24,000 in the next two years. The “lifestyle hotel” is here to stay, as we see ever increasing entrants to the new-age concept that your hotel is more than just a place to crash after a day exploring the city. From Central Park to the shipyards of Brooklyn, here’s a look at the most exciting new entrants into the New York’s crowded market.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn
1 Hotel’s newly-minted eco-luxury sensibilities stakes their claims on the banks of the East River with 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. Set inside Brooklyn Bridge Park, the property is a joint venture with Starwood Capital and Toll Brothers City Living. Your clients will appreciate the sweeping views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the New York skyline from rooms that reference the former yard’s historic roots. The hotel’s 194 room rates start from $300 per night.

50 Bowery, Chinatown
A first in New York for Joie de Vivre Hotels after 30 years, 50 Bowery rises up on the storied Bowery with 229 rooms and a stunning new rooftop restaurant/bar fittingly named The Crown by Dale Talde, David Massoni, and John Bush on the 21st floor. The new property fits into burgeoning market of “lifestyle experiences” seen in the city, as amenities go beyond the standard coffee machine and iron to include a branded Lefroy Brooks rain showerhead, Jonathan Adler bath amenities, and hand-held personal steamers. Room rates from $300 per night.

The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel, Financial District
Thompson Hotels continues to expand its New York footprint with The Beekman, the company’s third New York outpost. Retrofitted in the landmark Queen Anne building that dates back to 1881, The Beekman has restored the gilded beauty to her former glory. Perfect for the client who seeks out a hotel with character and history, the building’s stunning nine-story Victorian atrium and pyramidal skylight is a jaw-dropper. The hotel has 287 rooms that merge contemporary and classic style along with two on-site restaurants, Augustine and Fowler & Wells. Room rates from $423.

PUBLIC, Lower East Side
Turning heads and bringing a new edge to the scene, Ian Schrager (founder of Studio 54 fame) wows with PUBLIC. You know it’s a big deal when Courtney Love, Ashley Olsen, and The Weeknd make an appearance at the opening ceremonies. Hubbub aside, the new Lower East Side digs are minimalist, sophisticated, and remarkably affordable with rooms priced from $150 per night. The hotel stretches to the sky with 28 stories and 367 rooms with what the hotel boasts as the “fastest Wi-Fi in the city.” Room rates from $425 a night.

The Hoxton Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Hoxton’s “luxury on the cheap” mentality hopes to find a new audience by way of the U.S. as its first entrant arrives by way of Williamsburg this year. The Hoxton Williamsburg will arrive just in time to meet the notable rise in travelers seeking Brooklyn as their home base. The Hoxton Williamsburg will feature 175 rooms, three eateries, and a rooftop bar. And with prices from $149 per night, expect this property to fill up fast.

MADE, NoMad
MADE hotel arrives in NoMad as the first hotel project from hospitality entrepreneur Sam Gelin. Aiming for a younger set with the hotel’s aim to reinvent the guest experience, with an open and airy lobby that shifts from morning coffee time to a sunset cocktail program when it opens this September. The 108 guestrooms will be rustic and smart, adorned with custom-dyed & handwoven fabrics, hand-painted wall tiles, exposed concrete tubs and one-of-a-kind hand-carved stone sinks. Rates from $127.

The Whitby, Midtown
Firmdale Hotels opened its second property in New York at the beginning of the year, dazzling with The Whitby. Built to impress the more sophisticated traveler, The Whitby inspires with 86 individually designed rooms and suites, each with their own color scheme with bathrooms finished in marble or granite. Location is a winning factor for the property on West 56 Street, just a few blocks from Central Park and MoMA. Guests can expect charming elegance at the property that also features a classic bar, drawing room, orangery, courtyard, and even a 130 seat cinema. Room rates from $695.

Life Hotel, Herald Square
Life Hotel brings a chirpy new energy to the historic building that was once the home of Life Magazine. The hotel’s 98 rooms are stark white with high ceilings, wood floors, and the original moldings. Guests can also look forward to seeing nearly 200 pieces of work commissioned for the rooms by New York-based artists. The room rates start at $249 per night.

James Hotel New York, NoMad
Transforming the former Beaux Arts Carlton Hotel to the city’s second James Hotel property, the James Hotel NoMad was unveiled this past June. James Hotel NoMad lands in a hot spot for travelers looking to be steps from the highlights of any New York trip: Eataly, the Flatiron Building, and the original Shake Shack. The large property boasts 344 rooms and suites in its 12-story Beaux-Arts building that dates back to the early 1900s. Guests can expect a few fun technological advances at the hotel including keyless entry and a custom mobile app that aides in room requests, dining orders, and streaming movies. Room rates start at $235.
