Nick Walton’s Welcome To Asia, Sept. 2016

by Nick Walton  September 09, 2016

The Wynn Palace Macau is the third property for the Wynn Group in the city.

It’s all action in Macau, as the first properties in a series of exciting new integrated resorts open their doors. Themed on the City of Light, The Parisian is the newest venture by Sands China and brings an additional touch of European elegance to the Cotai Strip. Boasting 3,000 guest rooms and suites, a 1,200-seat theatre, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and aquatic theme park, an extensive spa, and a host of innovative dining and entertainment options, the Parisian’s crowning glory is a half-scale Eiffel Tower that will hosts nightly light shows.

Nearby, the new Wynn Palace, the third property for the Wynn Group in the city and the first on the Cotai Strip, has also opened. Featuring an eight-acre performance lake that will backdrop nightly light and water shows, best viewed from Sky Cab cable cars that soar 90 feet above, the Wynn Palace has 1,706 guest rooms, suites and opulent villas, as well as the city’s largest spa, with 22 lavish treatment rooms. As with its sibling properties, dining plays an important role at the Wynn Palace, with world-class restaurants including the SW Steakhouse, the Wing Lei Palace, and the Wing Lei Bar, home to an 18th century crystal chandelier valued at US$25 million.

Overlooking the dazzling Arabian Sea on India’s west coast, the W Goa brings a touch of chic luxury to the country’s favourite beach playground when it opens this month. Located in North Goa, on a palm-lined stretch of pristine coastline, the 25 acre property features 160 spacious guest rooms and luxurious villas, each decked out with signature W touches, including glorious bathrooms with rain showers and bliss amenities, 300-thread count linens, and 49-inch LED flatscreen televisions. Guests can sip cocktails on the WET Deck, work out in the FIT gym, and pamper themselves at the Spa by Clarins, before catching stunning sunsets at the beachfront pan-Asian restaurant Spice Traders.

Starwood has opened its first ever property in the Japanese capital with the unveiling of The Prince Gallery Tokyo, a Luxury Collection hotel. Located in the prestigious Kioicho district, the hotel boasts sumptuous interiors by the Rockwell Group across its 250 guest rooms, which include 11 breathtaking suites, each of which fuses traditional Japanese touches with modern amenities. The hotel occupies the 30th to 36th floors of a mixed use tower, ensuring spectacular cityscape views from the signature Japanese restaurant, Washouku Souten, and the illumiid THE Bar, a signature watering hole with floor-to-ceiling windows and an enviable Japanese whisky collection.

With a focus on understated luxury and gastronomy, Zannier Hotels has opened its latest luxury enclave in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Phum Baitang is located minutes from of the Unesco-listed Angkor Wat temple complex, and comprises 45 private villas crafted with authentic Khmer architecture and locally-sourced materials. Opt for one of the 130sqm Pool Villas, which come with vaulted ceilings, deep soak tubs, outdoor salas, and private plunge pools wreathed by lemongrass. The authentic Khmer experience extends to the property’s two restaurants, Bay Phsar or “Rice Market” and Hang Bay or “Rice Shop”, both of which serve delicious Khmer cuisine using fresh organic herbs and vegetables from the resort’s own gardens. A chic cigar and cocktail lounge is also located beside the resort’s magnificent 50 meter infinity pool.
