10 of the Most Romantic Destinations Around the World
by Jessica Montevago /As Valentine’s Day approaches, and love is in the air, it has inspired us to round up 10 destinations that are perfect for a romantic getaway. While it may be too late to arrange for this Feb. 14, travel advisors can use these ideas for honeymoons, vow renewals and anniversaries.
1. Venice, Italy
From a quintessential gondola ride through the canals to a grand night at the world-famous Teatro La Feni opera house, there’s plenty to do together in Venice. Go on a romantic stroll before stopping to sip on a glass of wine at an outdoor café. Top off the evening by watching the sun set over the canal city at the Ponte dell’Academia.
2. Kauai, Hawaii
Promising raw beauty and a respite from crowds, Kauai is Hawaii’s least-developed island. Surrounded by a lush landscape and breathtaking waterfalls, the “Garden Island” is best for couples seeking outdoor adventure. Go snorkeling and scuba diving in the crystal blue waters on the North Shore, or hike the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali coastline.
3. Nice, France
If Paris seems too cliché, try this charming seaside town in the French Riviera. Go for a sunset walk along the waterfront Promenade des Anglais, enjoying the deep blue backdrop of the Mediterranean. Or, spend a day wondering the cobblestone streets in Vieux Nice (old Nice), lined with pastel-hued buildings where shops sell Niçoise soaps, Provençal textiles, and an array of meats and cheeses. Either way, you’ll be enchanted.
4. Bora Bora, Tahiti
There’s a reason this Tahitian island tops the bucket list of couples from all over the world. White sand beaches lined with coconut trees surround Bora Bora’s lagoon, home to tropical fish, corals, and manta rays – the perfect setting for scuba diving or snorkeling. Indulge in one of the many luxury resorts and spas that dot the island with overwater bungalows and thatched-roof villas.

5. Bali, Indonesia
It’s the best of both worlds in Bali. Couples can begin their stay at a luxury beach resort in the southern region, the perfect place to lounge in the sun and indulge in spa treatments. Then head to Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, where there are a variety of temples to visit; as well as activities such as river rafting, hiking or cycling rice terraces, and shopping in traditional markets.
6. St. Lucia
Tranquil and secluded, St. Lucia is a tropical gem in the Caribbean Sea with a lush landscape distinguished by two peaks, The Pitons. By day, relax by the beach, trek to a rainforest waterfall, or bathe in therapeutic hot springs. By night, dine on fresh seafood by candlelight on a private beach overlooking the Pitons. It’s clear why this tiny island was chosen as the world’s best honeymoon destination by the World Travel Awards, for five consecutive years.
7. Santorini, Greece
Picture this: An intimate dinner for two, paired with wine from a world-renowned volcanic vineyard overlooking cliffs adorned with whitewashed houses atop the Aegean Sea. It doesn’t get more romantic than that. Beyond its picturesque setting, Santorini has endless activities for adventurous couples. Try a cooking class of the island’s specialties, a tour around the caldera, or a soak in an infinity pool nestled at the cliff’s edge.
8. Quebec City, Quebec
Spend a cozy winter getaway cuddled up in the French-Canadian city. Wander the snow-covered streets lined with centuries-old buildings or visit Hôtel de Glace (Québec’s famous ice hotel) before warming up with a hot soak, sauna and relaxing massage at a Nordic spa. Dress up for a night out together at a gourmet restaurant and a play at the Grand Théâtre.
9. Hoi An, Vietnam
Arguably one of the world’s great food capitals, spend quality time with your loved one at a cooking class or on a street food tour to taste authentic Vietnamese dishes such as pho and bun cha. In-between meals, explore the town – an UNESCO World Heritage Site – and its traditional merchant houses, temples, markets, and iconic 400-year-old Japanese Bridge.
10. Napa Valley, California
Northern California’s stunning scenery of rolling vineyards, wine caverns and grand estates, coupled with its award-winning wine, make for an intimate destination unto its own. After visiting the wineries, enjoy the indulgences of surrounding gourmet restaurants, top-notch hotels, and chic spas.
