Air France Flight Attendants Strike

by Daniel McCarthy  July 27, 2016

At least 30% of Air France’s domestic and medium-haul flights will be canceled this week as its flight attendants begin a week-long strike over labor disagreements.

Close to 35% of the 13,600 flight attendants that Air France employs are expected to strike, though an even higher percentage could potentially join.

Air France has cancelled a number of flights in advance but is warning passengers that last-minute cancellations and delays could still happen and that a limited number of attendants could also limit the number of passengers it can accommodate on each flight. The airline is updating flight schedules the day before scheduled departures.

Flights in Europe and to North Africa, Israel and Asia will all be affected.

Air France partner Delta Air Lines is offering travel options for people wanting to make changes because of the strike. Any tickets for flights from now until August 12 are eligible for a change without fee.

Delta and Air France’s other partners—HOP! and KLM—will not suffer from the strike.

Air France has over 7,000 employees ready to assist customers needing to make changes to their flights. All updates are available on its website (airfrance.com).

This is the second major strike by Air France workers is as many months. In June, a four-day strike by its pilots forced the airline to allow passengers to postpone their trips at no extra cost. That strike grounded around 20% of the airline’s flights.
