United Airlines on Friday announced that it would fly its largest schedule since pre-pandemic as it works to meet a surging demand for summer travel.

United is adding an additional 480 daily flights to its U.S schedule, which will bring its average daily domestic flight volume to over 3,100, starting in June. The schedule will serve more than 240 U.S. destinations, including flights to Hawaii, Alaska, and Montana.

While the news is evidence that travel demand is returning, especially domestically in the U.S., United’s schedule is still only at 67% of its 2019 domestic schedule for the same period.

“As leisure travel continues to return this summer, we are adding more flights to our June schedule to national parks, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, and other popular destinations,” said Ankit Gupta, vice president of domestic planning and scheduling at United.

“June is historically the beginning of the peak summer travel season and ramping up to over 3,500 total daily flights across the system this June underscores the continued demand for leisure travel and our responsiveness to meeting that demand.”

Among other routes, United will now fly over 40 different routes to Hawaii, including service from Chicago to Kona and New York/Newark to Maui; 12 daily and 69 weekly flights to Alaska from cities including Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York/Newark, and San Francisco; and over 500 daily flights to 66 different national parks.
