Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), formerly Barbados Tourism Authority, has appointed a new CEO and a new COO.

Starting April 1, Andrea Franklin will be the agency’s new CEO, and Cheryl Carter will be the new COO. Ian Gooding-Edghill, Barbados’ minister of tourism and international transport, announced the new appointments on Wednesday.

“Ms. Franklin is a homegrown, well-educated, and experienced tourism and hospitality practitioner who has come through the ranks to reach the top tourism post in Barbados,” the tourism minister said in a statement. “I instructed the BTMI Board to search carefully for someone fit to represent this office and I am satisfied that they have fulfilled their mandate.”

Franklin was previously the manager of product integration and senior business development manager in the the New York sales office for BTMI. For the past five years, she has been the country manager for Chukka Caribbean Adventures. She was also previously the CEO of Caves of Barbados and an account executive at Air Jamaica.

Carter was previously the tourism agency’s interim head of global markets in the U.K. and brings more than 26 years of industry experience to the role.
