Destination Toronto has named Andrew Weir as its new president & CEO.

Weir has been with Destination Toronto in a leadership executive role since 2005. Most recently, he led planning and advocacy for Toronto tourism as the executive vice president, destination development. He steps into the new role effective May 1, 2024.

“Having conducted a thorough North American search, we are thrilled to announce Andrew Weir as Destination Toronto’s new President & CEO,” said Rekha Khote, chair of the board of directors at Destination Toronto. ” We are confident that his established strong community connections will act as a catalyst for driving innovation and growth in critical areas of the business.”

Weir will be stepping into the vacancy left by Scott Beck’s departure in October. Beck served as Destination Toronto’s president & CEO for four years.

Weir is an industry veteran with a deep understanding of Toronto’s visitor economy, as well as a proven track record of building strategic relationships. In his most recent role, he supported the region’s tourism through leading partnerships between the industry, broader business leadership, and the government. He served on Destination International’s DMAP Board and as Chair of the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) from 2021 to 2023.

“I’m deeply honored and excited to lead Destination Toronto at this critical time,” said Andrew Weir. “Toronto is Canada’s most-visited destination, and for good reason. The genuine diversity and vibrancy of our arts, food, festivals and neighborhoods, against one of the world’s truly spectacular skylines, continue to excite and attract visitors from around the world.”
