DOT Bans E-Cigarettes in the Air
E-cigarettes users are officially out of luck when it comes to flying.
Five months after the feds banned e-cigarettes in checked bags on flights, the Department of Transportation (DOT) officially banned their use on flights.
The new law eliminates any confusion as to whether the DOT considers e-cigarettes smoking. While there are previous smoking bans in place, they did not explicitly include vaping.
“This final rule is important because it protects airline passengers from unwanted exposure to aerosol fumes that occur when electronic cigarettes are used onboard airplanes,” transportation secretary Anthony Foxx said in a news release.
All vape products, including electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and devices designed to look like pens are banned by the new rule, which will officially take effect in 30 days.
