Feds Ban E-Cigarettes in Checked Bags on Flights
The Department of Transportation is banning electronic cigarettes in airline passenger’s checked luggage. The new federal law aims to prevent potential fires. There have been at least 26 incidents since 2009 in which e-cigs have caused explosions or fires, according to the DOT. That can happen when the devices are left on too long and short circuit.
The measure still allows passengers to pack e-cigarettes in carry-on bags, as long as they don’t recharge them on the plane.
The ban goes into effect in two weeks.
