Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Bans Smoking

Passengers of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will no longer be able to smoke within the airport. Thanks to new regulations passed by the city of Atlanta last July, smoking and vaping has been outlawed in a variety of public spaces throughout the city, including the airport.
“In an effort to maintain the health, safety and welfare of the traveling public the City of Atlanta has passed an ordinance prohibiting smoking and vaping inside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport,” the airport said in an announcement on its website. “In accordance with this smoking ban, all smoking rooms inside the airport will close on January 2, 2020.”
The ban was officially enforced on Jan. 2, making ATL the largest airport in the U.S. to adopt a ban on smoking.
Smokers will still be able to get their fix at one of five dedicated outdoor smoking areas, and additionally the airport recently introduced a Smoking Passenger Accommodation Program. The 30-day program, which launched on Jan. 2, offers complimentary lozenges to passengers with limited access to the exterior smoking zones.
