Study: Germany Has World’s Best Passports
For the third year in a row, German citizens have the world’s most powerful passports, according to residence and citizenship planning firm Henley and Partners.
Henley and Partners released its annual Visa Restrictions Index on Friday and gave Germany the nod as the country with the most visa-free access (177 out of a possible 218 countries).
Sweden, a country that has ranked in the top three of the index for the past ten years, had the second highest visa-free access, with 176 countries.
Finland, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom tied for third with 175 visa-free countries.
The United States, which ranked first in 2014, came in fourth place—tied with Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands—with access to 174 countries.
On the other side of the survey, the world’s worst passport countries remain unchanged from 2015, with Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan coming in last. Someone with an Afghani passport will only be able to travel to 25 countries.
