United Airlines Will Charge More to Reserve Economy Seats Near Front of Plane

United Airlines will now charge more for travelers to sit in economy seats near the front of the plane, matching policies already in place from Delta and American Airlines.
The option will be offered to travelers who want to sit in the first few rows behind Economy Plus, which is United’s economy section offering extra legroom and other perks, and where passengers are among the first off the plane. The option does not give travelers access to any of the Economy Plus benefits or any other special perks.
According to USA Today, which reported the news, United will add the option later this year. Passengers who arrive at the airport and are scheduled for a flight where the seats have not been reserved by other passengers will be able to sit there for free, as will United corporate clients and certain Elite-level frequent fliers.

United has given no word on what the option will cost. Both American’s and Delta’s options have different costs depending on departure points and destinations.
