Walt Disney World Acquires Land for Mystery Project

by Daine Taylor  January 02, 2020

Walt Disney World recently purchased an additional 235 acres of land to add to it Orlando hub, but there’s no word yet as to what the plot will be used for.

The company made the acquisition through the Compass Rose Corporation, a subsidiary of Walt Disney. The land, located just west of Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, was purchased for $6 million from Lake Reedy LLC, according to a report from The Lewiston Tribune.

The Walt Disney Corporation has not yet announced what the land will be used for, but this is hardly their first land acquisition in recent years. The company purchased more than 1,500 acres of land in Osceola County in January 2019, and 965 acres from the nearby B-K Ranch back in December 2018.

The news of the land acquisition comes as Disney prepares to introduce a host of new features and attractions to its Orlando parks.

Among the new attractions set to hit Disney’s theme parks in 2020 is the addition of four new neighborhoods currently under development for Epcot Center. The new areas — World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery — will include highlights like the first attraction inspired by Mary Poppins in the United Kingdom pavilion and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France pavilion.

The company will also introduce a TRON-themed attraction, based on the popular movie franchise, to be added to Tomorrowland in a new area near Space Mountain. The coaster-style attraction will take guests on a thrilling race aboard their own lightcycle.

In addition, there will be an original new Cirque de Soleil show debuting in April 2020, which will pay homage to Disney’s history of animation. Also coming are Disney’s Riviera Resort (a new Disney Vacation club) and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (a hotel that will offer guests a two-night vacation experience in a galaxy far, far away).
