Historic French Château Turns Luxury Retreat
The 2,100-acre estate of French oil baron and billionaire Didier Primat has been turned into a château-style retreat. Primat’s daughter Garance has spent five years renovating the centuries-old property, reopening its doors as the Domaine des Etangs.
Located in the Charente region of France, about 100 miles north of Bordeaux, the countryside retreat mixes elegance with adventure. Guests can enjoy a range of activities, including cycling, rowing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and sailing. It features seven suites, seven farmhouse cottages, a fine-dining restaurant, and a soon-to-open spa. Prices range from $650 to $2,000 per night.
