Thousands of travelers across Europe are facing severe disruptions today as compounding network congestion, Air Traffic Control flow restrictions, and regional operational issues trigger hundreds of flight delays and cancellations.
The issues are being led by London Heathrow (LHR) with 215 total delays (107 origin, 108 destination) and 73 cancellations, Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) with 239 total delays (136 origin, 103 destination) and 25 cancellations, and Barcelona International (BCN) with 108 total delays (65 origin, 43 destination) and 18 cancellations.
Live tracking data from FlightAware shows total delays across Europe rapidly climbing into the thousands today. British Airways continues to top global disruption charts with 138 delayed flights (20% of its schedule) and 65 cancellations, while major gateways across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East report double-digit percentage delay rates across peak operational windows.
Some of the delays are coming from weather (London Heathrow has been experiencing bad visibility all morning and storms in Catalonia have been impacting Barcelona flights all weekend). Those issues have caused a cascading impact across Europe, as early-morning gate holds compound exponentially throughout the afternoon.
