United Fined $1.1 Million for Tarmac Delays
The U.S. Department of Transportation fined United Airlines $1.1 million for lengthy tarmac delays at Chicago-O’Hare International in July 2012. The fine is the largest for a tarmac-delay violation since the rule limiting these delays took effect three years ago. The carrier will pay the U.S. $475,000. The balance of the fine covers mitigation measures for affected passengers and actions United will take to enhance its future compliance.
