United Debuts Automated Security Lanes

United Airlines will debut its new automated security lanes at Los Angeles International Airport this weekend.
The first two automated lanes from United will open at Terminal 7. The lanes are designed to expedite the security screening process with a conveyor system that automatically returns empty bins to the front of the line and a design that allows up to five people to fill bins at the same time.
United has plans to install 17 more of those lanes at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, and add additional ones in Chicago and LAX.
United isn’t the first airline to install the lanes. Earlier this year, Delta Air Lines invested nearly $1 million in a similar project at Atlanta’s Hartsfield airport and American Airlines announced its own plans to American Airlines to debut similar lanes at Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles International and Miami International.
