Some Americans See Travel Insurance as Too Expensive
by Richard D'Ambrosio /Forty two percent of Americans who do not purchase travel insurance say they don’t because it’s too expensive.
According to a survey of 4,784 Americans, conducted by USJetcost.com, 41 percent said that they had not taken out travel insurance for their trip. All of the respondents had traveled outside the continental U.S. within the last 12 months.
Of those who didn’t purchase insurance, 28 percent said “it was only a short vacation,” 25 percent simply forgot to purchase insurance, and 16 percent said they didn’t feel they needed it for the countries they were visiting. Additionally, 8 percent felt travel insurance was “a waste of money.”
However, the poll also found that people who had to visit a doctor or hospital abroad with no travel insurance paid an average of $1,295.
