Travelport to Roll Out Shopping Site

by Michèle McDonald  November 15, 2013

Travelport is beta-testing Travelport Marketplace, an online site where customers can shop for and buy products built by Travelport and members of the Travelport Developer Network.

The Marketplace will provide developers with a retail outlet to promote and sell their products to Travelport subscribers.

It’s designed to help developers build innovative products that work in harmony with Travelport technologies.

Companion apps
When it is fully launched, travel agents will find companion apps for Travelport Smartpoint and the Travelport Universal Desktop.

They also will “meet” potential partners for a broad range of IT tools, from Internet booking engine providers to mobile app developers.

Travelport is in alpha testing with four agencies and six members of the Developer Network of a software development kit for Travelport Smartpoint. That will allow developers to build plug-ins that integrate with the desktop used by the majority of Travelport agencies.

New partners
At the PhoCusWright Conference in Hollywood, Fla., next week, Travelport will be looking for new partners for a beta-testing program for the kit that will kick off early in 2014.

It also will offer a schedule of demonstrations by members of the Travelport Developer Network.

The Marketplace is similar to the Sabre Red App Centre launched by Sabre Travel Network two years ago.
