Early Results Indicate “No” on Ship-Free Saturdays in Juneau

Though voting is still ongoing in Juneau regarding ship-free Saturdays, early results are leaning heavily against the proposition (Ballot Proposition 2), according to multiple reports including Cruise Week and KTOO.

The Juneau Empire, as quoted by Cruise Week, declared Wednesday morning that “Ship-Free Saturday is decisively losing.”

The reports are based on ballots that were mailed in or dropped off. In-person voting is set to take place today.

Of the 3,873 people who sent in or dropped off their ballots, 3,873 people have voted no on Proposition 2, while 2,586 have voted yes, as reported by KTOO.

However, according to Cruise Week, early voting traditionally accounts for “a very significant portion” of the overall votes during Juneau’s municipal elections. Results will not be certified until Oct. 15.

The no-ship Saturday proposal, if passed, would see a ban on cruise ships carrying 250 or more passengers on Saturdays, as well as on July 4.
