Hurtigruten Targets Children with Young Explorers Program

February 26, 2016

Hurtigruten is taking aim at a younger demographic with a new educational children’s program on its Antarctica cruises.

The Young Explorers Program, available on Antarctica Discovery Style sailings aboard the Midnatsol starting in November 2016, gives the kids ages 7-13 a chance to act like real Alaskan explorers onboard and in port.

Onboard, there will be science lessons in the ship’s science center, polar history lectures, and photography demonstrations. During port stops, program participants get to plant flags for path-making, dig snow steps, and carry emergency equipment from the ship. Staff members from the Explorers Program accompany the kids at all times.

The program will be available on the 18-day Legendary Magellan Chilean Fjords and Antarctica cruise and the 16-day Discover Patagonia and Antarctica sailing. It will run until March 2017.
