New Boutique Hotel Opens in Mexico City Cultural District
by Briana Bonfiglio /Colima 71, a new boutique hotel, has opened in Mexico City’s Colonia Roma Norte district, a popular cultural hub.
The 16-room property, located on Colima Street, pays respect to the rich culture of the area, which is known for its community of artisans, stand-out architecture, and quality cuisine.
“At Colima 71, we wish to take our guests on an immersive journey through the neighborhood’s unique culture and lifestyle that begins as soon as they set foot in our hotel,” said Ana Ongay, managing director of Colima 71. “We’re just minutes from the best restaurants in the city, the most inspiring art galleries, and eccentric artisan shops, all nestled among the destination’s historical architecture and natural beauty.
“We want to provide our guests with a comfortable, design-forward homebase and encourage them to explore the vibrant surrounding neighborhoods,” Ongay added.
Each room at Colima 71 is studio apartment-style with a private balcony overlooking either Colima Street or the hotel’s courtyard. The residentially inspired spaces also include a full kitchen, dining area, and King bed.
The hotel blends modern design with traditional Mexican hospitality, according to the hotel owners. Architecture company T.A.X. by Alberto Kalach designed the building with a mix of contemporary design and natural elements, such as stone and metals.
Interior designers Nomah Studio and Karla Celerio gave the hotel its artistic, sophisticated atmosphere with works from many different artists. There is photography by Iñaki Bonilla, a sculpture installation by Darío Escobar, and a latticework installation by Sofía Taboas, and more.
The hotel includes a sunken lounge with moody natural lighting flooding in from floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as other indoor and outdoor public spaces.
In addition to its arts and culture, this Mexico City district is known for its culinary chops, especially its pastries and coffee. Colima 71 has an all-day coffee bar with specialty coffees for purchase that is open to the public. Guests can also get “morning coffee” service with their choice of beverage and pastry delivered to their door.
