Five of the Most Anticipated New Hotels Opening in 2022

With 2021 weeks away from coming to an end, the travel industry is slowly but surely turning its focus to 2022, a year that again promises some kind of relief from the downturn caused by COVID-19. 

To get you ready for 2022, TMR has rounded up five of the most anticipated hotel openings next year, many of which will finally make their long-awaited debut after COVID-19 delays. Here’s just a taste of what you can expect, and where you can stay, on your 2022 vacations.

1. The Madrid EDITION (Madrid, Spain)
EDITION, the luxury boutique hotel collection from Marriott, is having a moment. After a 2021 expansion that saw the brand open new properties in Reykjavik, and West Hollywood, among others, the brand will continue to open new hotels in 2021. And that starts with The Madrid EDITION, scheduled to open in Q1 of next year.

The property will host guests across 200 guest rooms near Puerta de Sol in the heart of Madrid, walking distance from the city’s Golden Triangle of Art. EDITION promises the property will “reflect the people and the culture of the city will become a stunning microcosm of one-of-a-kind food, beverage and entertainment offerings, innovative design, and luxury service.”

On-site, the Madrid Edition will offer a signature restaurant, cocktail bar, rooftop terrace, outdoor pool, fitness center, and spa. For MICE, the hotel will also offer flexible studios with over 3,767 sq. ft. of dedicated space for large or small groups.

The Madrid property will join others on tap for 2022 for EDITION including a new Tampa hotel, the brand’s first Italian property in Rome (early 2022), and two new London properties.

2. Waldorf Astoria Cancun (Cancun, Mexico)
Cancun has played host to a rapid hotel expansion over the past decade or so and that trend won’t be slowing down in 2022. One of the highlights of the 2022 list of Cancun hotel openings will no doubt be the new property from Waldorf Astoria.

Scheduled to open in the second half of 2022 (the property is currently accepting reservations for Sept. 29, 2022), the hotel promises to welcome guests to a luxury beachfront oasis on 100 acres of secluded Mayan coastline.

The hotel will join other high-luxury offerings in Cancun, with oceanfront swim-up suites that include a private swimming pool and master corner suites that clock in at more than 1,600 sq. ft. For food, guests will be able to enjoy five different on-site restaurants ranging from the all-day brasserie to Malpeque, fresh seafood, fine dining eatery, along with 24-hour room service and pool-side cocktail service.

Meeting space, pet-friendly rooms, a business center, a gym, and the Waldorf Astoria Spa will also be available to guests.

3. The Fifth Avenue Hotel (New York, U.S.)
For the first time since 2019, New York City is expected to be the top destination for 2021 holiday travel, a sure sign that the City that Never Sleeps is fully out of its COVID-19-induced slumber. Good news for the city won’t stop there.

The 24-story Fifth Avenue Hotel is expected to open in February 2022, adding another property to a long list of Manhattan hotels that are destinations in themselves. The hotel, which dates back to the second half of the 19th century, is designed by Martin Brudinski and will welcome guests just a short walk away from Madison Square Park and the city’s iconic Flatiron Building

Just 153 guest rooms will be available, each with its own personality. None will look the same, instead, guests will be greeted by distinctive artwork and design in each room. 

While the location will give guests access to some of the best food and drink in the city, onsite the hotel will also offer some options including The Fifth Avenue Hotel’s Signature Restaurant, The Portrait Bar, The Study, and The Terrace.

4. Rosewood Vienna (Vienna, Austria)
Another transformation into an ultra-luxury hotel highlights the list. The fifth Rosewood property in Europe, Rosewood Vienna, a project that was first announced in 2017, will finally welcome guests next summer. 

Housed in the historic 18th Century building that was the former headquarters for Erste Group Bank AG, the hotel will combine iconic, historic European flare with a modern style. It will be located just a short walk from the city’s shopping and dining districts, giving guests the opportunity to stay in ultra-luxury accommodations that also serve as a gateway to Vienna’s history. 

A total of 99 guest rooms and suites will be available, each with separate spaces for entertainment and relaxation. For dining, the property promises to have a ‘variety of doing and entertainment options,’ the highlight of which is a rooftop bar that will offer spectacular views of Vienna. It will also have  Sense, A Rosewood Spa.

5. Cashel Palace (Tipperary, Ireland)
Ireland’s countryside is dotted with some of the most unique castles and country houses that you can find. Think Ashford Castle, one of the country’s premier hotels and one of the gems of the Red Carnation Hotels portfolio.

In 2022, the country is getting another addition with the Cashel Palace Hotel, a Palladian manor in Tipperary, a county that blends picturesque countryside with ancient history.

The hotel traces its routes back to the 1700s when it served as a residence for Church of Ireland archbishops, but hasn’t welcomed guests since 2015. However, after being acquired and renovated, the Palace is once again prepping to welcome guests starting in March 2022.

Cashel Palace will offer a range of accommodations from nine different suites each featuring high ceilings and fireplaces, to deluxe rooms that feature original wooden beams and views of the Rock of Cashel, one of the county’s most historic sites.
Its dining offerings are highlighted by The Bishop’s Buttery, an eatery that dates back to the original palace and offers traditional Irish cooking by Executive Chef Stephen Hayes, and Mikey Ryan, a casual dining option that regularly attracts locals.
