American Queen Moved to Recycling Facility

The future of American Queen, while not yet decided, is looking bleak. The ship, the largest paddlewheel river ship ever built, is currently docked at the MARS recycling facility in Houma, La.

“No official decisions or changes have been made about the boat,” a spokesperson for American Cruise Lines told TMR.

The American Queen, most recently a part of the American Queen Voyages, was purchased by American Cruise Lines as part of a four-ship purchase after AQV was shut down. Two of the four ships – American Countess and American Duchess – have already been recycled.

According to ACL, “We continue to evaluate options for the Queen, including the possibility of donation to a municipal or non-profit entity.”
